*WARNING: KINDA SORTA LONG POST*
Hey everyone. Tonight I’m here to talk to you guys about studying…not how much I hate it, but the BEAUTY of it. Before you leave in disgust, trust me – this might help you have a more positive attitude about studying, whether it’s for middle school, high school, or university.
The first thing about studying: Our peers all hate it. They say negative things about it all the time. “I hate studying”, “I hate school”, “UGH! I have to study for my classes so I can’t do anything else!”, “Why do I even try? I might as well just not.” Picture this, though: what if everyone around you talked about how much they loved studying? What if studying became just as fun as hanging out with your friends just because everyone else also enjoyed it? In my opinion, our peers’ feelings about studying have a very big impact on how you think about studying. So, lesson #1: Your feelings about studying are, in part, based on who you are around daily and who you talk to on a regular basis.
The second thing about studying: We all focus too much on “the now”. We all focus too much on how terrible and how tiring it is, instead of what we gain at the end. I admit, it’s really hard to focus on the future when what you are doing right now brings so much stress and fatigue…but trust me, it’s possible! If I can do it, you probably can too. lesson #2: Focus. One thing I think about also is that even if you’re tired right now, you can aaaalways sleep all you want after exams are over. And, think of how good it’s going to feel! You’ll sleep for 8 hours instead of 4 feeling completely satisfied with yourself. (Remember, it’s not the percentage that matters-it’s the feeling of you knowing that you truly did your best that matters.)
The third thing about studying: Have you ever tried writing pages and pages of notes? Not typed notes, but handwritten notes. It’s honestly so satisfying to write by hand on sheets and sheets of paper just so that you can 1. look at how much work you’ve done and 2. brag about how much work you’ve done. This is one of the things that kept me studying for Psychology, other than the fact that the subject itself was really interesting. So lesson #3: when you guys can, try to handwrite notes instead of typing them. The result? SATISFACTION AND BRAGGING RIGHTS! The best thing you could ever get in times of raging stress, right?
Moral of the story: look, studying doesn’t always have to be tiring and boring! If it does get tedious and you start to slack off, arrange to study with your friends. Spread the good vibes. Go to a coffee shop, and reward yourself with a cup when you’re done! Think of a whole bunch of ways you can get yourself motivated. It’s really not that bad, and I’m talking from experience.
Love you guys, and as always…thanks for reading my random rants.
