I hate beauty pageants. I do and there is so many ways I can justify this because in my opinion this is such a degrading topic of discussion. I was watching Toddlers and Tiaras, and how these self obsessed mothers pay thousands of dollars for the most elite coaches, and dresses, and makeup artist, and fake; hair, teeth, and nails. Starting your child at a young age, as young as a toddler, teaching these children the ideals of how society wants them to be.
With the upmost perfect posture and finger nails, this isn’t what a five year old shouldn’t even be interested in.
The satire of this all, is that children don’t even have a single clue as to what they are doing and why they are doing it. Mostly they are being sexualized at a very young age, displaying their developing bodies, in bikinis and walking around in high heels. All for a plastic crown, sash, and some cash.
But is giving into societies ordeals worth the cash anymore? Teaching a child to meet these standards of perfectly fake spray tans, and to the extremity of fake teeth, known as “flippers”, these children think it is imperfect to loose teeth at a young age there for wearing fake ones. A child’s norm is to loose teeth, but parents are enforcing these non existent rules that people in this day in age still follow.
Young children are being exposed to these topics of application of make up, and hair extensions. I don’t mean to bash anyone, nor do I have a child of my own卋ut at that early stage you should encourage the child to be their self’s and not be like everyone else. And to appreciate the individualism all together as well as personality and chraristics of the child’s personality. To embrace the developing beauty that the child has.
If you teach young girls at this age, it just validates the girl to feel more like she has to confide into these stereotypes of a perfect girl. Making these newer generation of girls feel less worthy, and self hate, body image issues, low self esteem. Along with these issues come psychological issues with the affects of self harm, anorexia, bulimia, and even suicide. All because these girls were taught that they didn’t meet the expectations of society, these girls face these issues.
To make a connection, my opinion is does not matter. But my message does. I hope some of you who reads this post can find some agreement in my opinion, and ask yourself what could you do to change this, and other peoples thoughts about it. To show young girls self love and confidence. To be comfterble in their own skin.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TO MY ARGUMENT.(information from http://www.dosomething.org)
1. 20% of teens will experience depression before they reach adulthood
2. 7 in 10 girls believe that they are not good enough or dont measure up in some way, including their looks, performance in school and relationships with friends and family members.
3. A girl’s self-esteem is more strongly related to how she views her own body shape and body weight, than how much she actually weighs.
4. Over 70% of girls age 15 to 17 avoid normal daily activities, such as attending school, when they feel bad about their looks
Think about it.
