White buildings with splashes of blue and red, green trees towering over the small streets and people speeding past on bicycles is my welcome into Lyon. My cosy studio is home for the next year – a world away from Australia.
After walking in the wrong direction for 1km – uphill, I might add – we found out we should have followed this nun up the stairwell to see the Basilica Notre Dame of Lyon. Ironic life lesson: if in doubt, follow the nun.
In the evening, Lyon turns into a frenzy of people and activity enjoying the sunshine. When it finally turns dark people don’t seem to mind that it’s 9pm and they haven’t eaten dinner yet, so venturing to the nearest restaurant is ideal. Either that, or they’re still indulging in a picnic of le pain, du fromage et les fraises.
The food is enough to win me over, but I think I’ll like it here.
