Trolls was released on October 19 in France and I finally saw it yesterday! It’s the new animated movie of the Dreamworks Animation studio starring Justin Timberlake, Anna Kendrick, Gwen Stefani, Zooey Deschanel, Russell Brand and James Corden. It’s based on the troll dolls that everyone knows. The movie is directed by Mike Mitchell and Walt Dohrn.
The Trolls live in a colorful world and are very happy people who always hug, sing and dance. It’s a beautiful world. However, unhappy ugly big creatures called the Bergens are eating the trolls to become happy. One day, the Trolls escape from the tree they are kept by the Bergens and recreate their home elsewhere. The adventure begins twenty years after that event where Princess Poppy is spending her time celebrating despite the warnings of Branch who is warning her the Bergens may hear the party and come eat them. Eventually that’s what happens, one Bergen notice what’s going on and come capture some of the Trolls leaving no choice to Poppy but to go on an adventure to save her friends with the help of Branch.
This is a joyful movie with lots of songs, the soundtrack is produced by Justin Timberlake who wrote the hit song ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’ and when you hear this song you just can’t stop the feeling! It fits perfectly with this universe and is a good summary of this movie. The soundtrack also contains many covers that are a delight to hear with Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, Zooey Deschanel and the others’s voices. It’s a great cast that makes you smile throughout the movie. There’s lot of laughing with hilarious moments. There’s also some emotional moments especially when Justin sings ‘True Colors’ with Anna Kendrick, one of the best scenes of the movie.
The animation is breathtaking, it’s truly amazingly beautiful – all these colors! They gave a much more friendly appearance to the trolls than the original dolls which is good especially that the trolls are all happy, singing and all. Each one is of different skin and hair color, all so joyful.
On this adventure, Branch and Poppy don’t only end up saving their friends but helping Bridget a lonely Bergen. There’s not a dull moment, you always want to dance and sing during this movie! It’s a lovely story of hope and friendship.
7/10 A movie for the whole family, funny, joyful and visually beautiful!
