The Legend of the Robin 16" x 20" from the Christmas Card Series.
With the fire going dull, Mary asked the oxen and the ass to blow on the fire to liven the flames. But they were both asleep. A brave small Robin who was flying past heard the Lady's pleas and saw that she and her son were in great discomfort. She flapped her wings till the flames rekindled and started burning brighter. The sparks even leapt up and seared the creature's breast but the Robin continued to serve baby Jesus bravely till the stable grew warmer and the Child slept softly. The Lady blessed the Robin for her bravery and kindness, and said that from that point of time, every Robin shall have a breast of red, as a reminder of the great Charity from the Robin who served the Lord.
