The word of God says,
Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples. And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, “Behold the Lamb of God!”The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to Him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), “where are You staying?”He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour). One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus.Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, “You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas” (which is translated, A Stone).John 1:35-42
John stood looking onto Jesus and called him the Lamb of God, that really really stuck out to me.
If you are not looking for something you will never find it- you may but it would take longer and it would likely be by chance. If you are not looking for someone how would you see them?
John was looking for Jesus- looking means it was active, conscious, intentional and planned. The bible says in Jeremiah 29:13
If you seek me you will find me, if you search for me with all your heartJeremiah 29:13
I believe John did just that and was able to see Jesus as the Lamb of God. He was able to identify who Jesus was to him and called Him by that name. Some people look to Christ during a time of doubt, uncertainty, sickness etc. and are able to identify Him as their Healer, Best Friend, Comforter etc. If we don’t look for him, how will we find him and get to know him?
Once you find someone you can begin to dialogue with them, find out about the things they like, don’t like, where they usually hang out etc. Basically, a relationship can start. From the scriptures above we see Jesus ask John and his people who they seek and then invited them to where he was staying. That is the reward, constant fellowship with God!
The first step in seeking God, lays with us- look for him, pursue him, long after, chase after, be deliberate about your relationship with him and he will invite us in to where he stays, share his secrets with us, tell us of things to come, show us the path we should take in life.
It doesn’t stop there!
And as Jesus called Simon Cephas, He was able to call Simon something only Jesus knew he would be in the future. When you deliberately look for Jesus, He is able to speak good into your future, your hopes, and your dreams.
The question we must as ourselves is whether we are looking for Jesus or looking for success, money, friends etc. The truth is if we are looking for those things we will miss Christ and will not be able to shout out “Behold!…” but if we seek Him, we will definitely find Him and He will give us all we need, and call us the things that we never imaged we could be.
