The One

The One

8 billion people in the world and she is the only one I want.

1 universe, 9 planets, 204 countries, 809 islands, 7 seas and I had the privilege of meeting you.

How many times have we heard these dialogues being played in romantic movies or TV series? How many times have we said them to our own partners? And how many of us out there believe that there is The One for us?

The idea of having 1 person who's truly meant for you is popular among us romanticists. We believe that the higher power has someone in store for us. We desperately cling to this idea to keep our faith in love and relationships. This extends to those who seem hostile to romance as well. Although they might not admit it, we all still need a reason to believe that something good is coming our way. After all, what's life without a tiny bit of hope right?

Although I too hope and believe that one day I'll meet a man that I will love and be loved by, I certainly don't believe in the concept of THE ONE.

How can I?

There are 8 billion people in the world, not even a tenth of whom I've met or will ever meet. There are 204 countries in the world and I certainly have not been to all of them and met the people there. So no, your loved one isn't THE ONE.

There will always be another person who will be a better match for you or another person whom you will love a lot more and who will make you a lot happier.

You aren't and will never be with the one. The reason you are in a relationship or will be with someone in the future has a lot more to do with CHOICE than fate or destiny or even love.

On your worst day, when you're in one of your worst moods and your loved one has to be elsewhere, it isn't fate or destiny or even love that keeps them by your side, supporting you through it all.

It is the choice that you are more important than anyone else.

Because choice comes above everything else.

YOU CHOSE EACH OTHER in sickness and in health, for better or for worse, despite your flaws and shortcomings, despite the rest of the world population, even if he/she is better. You chose each other today, you will tomorrow and for the rest of your lives you will always choose each other.

It makes all the difference in the world.
