This is an updated, satirical, pseudo karaoke collage of the song "Sixteen Tons". This song was originally written in the 40's but made famous by Ernie Ford in the 50's. It's about a cycle of poverty where coal miners had to pay high prices at company stores to feed their families because they were always broke (due to crappy wages) and these stores extended them credit. For many they pretty much worked to sign over their checks to the company store and never got out of debt. They basically became indentured servants spending years, even decades just trying to dig themselves out of a hole! Coal mining has changed a lot since those days due to technology so I thought it was fitting to bring the song up to date to reflect the modern state of the industry.
