Comedian/Actor/Writer Garry Shandling dies at age 66

Gary Shandling, best known as the star and main force behind the Gary Shandling show and “The Larry Sanders Show,” died March 24th after a “medical emergency” which was deemed “a massive heart attack.”  Shandling did not have any disclosed major health problems.

 

Shandling was and is an influential comedian whose humor was observational and neurotic yet distinguishable as his own brand of comedy which won him Emmy awards for his HBO series “The Larry Sanders Show” which ran from 1992-1998.  Shandling was born in Chicago and raised in Tucson, Arizona, the Comedian/actor/producer/writer earned a degree from the University of Arizona after which he moved Los Angeles and worked as a comedy and scriptwriter before devoting more time to stand-up comedy.  In 1986 his show the “Gary Shandling Show” aired on Showtime and was nominated for four Emmys during its run until 1990.  

 

Shandling was never married and did not have children. Shandling was a practicing Buddhist since his 20’s and will be ordained a monk at his funeral at which he will be either buried or cremated.
