Former Captain Azharuddin Backs Yuvraj singh’s Selection for the World Cup

India is a cricket loving nation and while the game is treated as a religion here, cricketers are often regarded as Gods. They Eat, sleep and Live cricket on a daily basis. Moreover, there are people are people who regards.  Sachin Tendulkar as the God of Cricket and if that to be believed, Yuvraj can certainly be regarded as the Prince of Indian cricket. It must be noted that Every now and then he shows up with the brilliance he was capable of: in the NatWest final in 2002, in some of the innings in the 2003 World Cup, when hitting six sixes in an over from Stuart Broad in the 2007 T20 World Championship and, of course, his superb all-round performance in the 2011 World Cup.

While there are people who says that Yuvraj Singh may be out of selection for the Indian Team citing the reasons that he is now not a regular in Punjab’s Ranji Trophy campaign this season, the Indian Cricket Prince is still the favorites of many around and former Captain of Indian Cricket Team Mohammed Azharuddin has now come to show his support to the Indian Cricketing legend. Azharuddin has clearly stated that he wants Yuvraj singh to be back in the Indian team  even when his fitness cannot clear the so called 'Yo-Yo' test, which is said t be a fitness test that is now being used as a standard  to get an all-clear  report on fitness grounds to make a player capable  to grab a place in the national team .

As per Azhar , “I really don’t know what the Yo-Yo Test is, but as far as fitness is concerned, everyone has to be fit. If you are not fit, you don’t play. But I feel there are players (who are) almost in the twilight of their careers but still very, very good. Maybe fitness for them can be relaxed a little”. Azhar was attending a Cricketing event in Dubai. “Like for a player like Yuvraj, he has gone through so much because of his illness (cancer). I don’t think he would have passed the ‘Yo-Yo’ test. There are other players as well. I am a very big fan of Suresh Raina. I feel he should come back. I saw him one and a half months back and he has become very fit. But if the team has taken a decision, you need to back it” Azhar further added. It’s worth mentioning here that this is the Same Azharuddin who use to set high standards in the field while he was the Indian captain so if he feels that Yuvi can be relaxed in those Fitness norms with the kind of Cricketing abilities he carries with his All rounder tag.

We can say now that the selectors need to pay attention to this fact which has been quoted by a legendary batsman himself and if this is not enough for letting Yuvi get selected in the world cup team, nothing else would. They should pay more respect towards the Sixer king which has brought more glory to the country after Sachin Tendulkar so this shall certainly been seen as a matter of fact.
