The Human Teeth are designed to break down food by cutting, mashing, and crushing them, making the food more easier to digestion. Although the process of digestion might be a weird and unpleasant sight to describe. However, your teeth is a marvel to look at. In fact, some people consider looking at the teeth of the person that they want to be romantically involved.

Aesthetically, the reason stated above is just one of the many reasons why people take extra special care of their teeth. However, be reminded that the human teeth are not only for looking good or just for chewing and crushing. Teeth are also good indications of your health. Here are some things that dentists and doctors can tell just by looking at your teeth.

Flat, Grounded and Worn down

Bruxism is a condition wherein a person gnaws on their teeth during sleep or during under a lot of stress. Although some people overcome this condition naturally, a lot of them don’t and begin to develop a weak set of teeth. Due to the repeated and often heavy grinding of both lower and upper sets of teeth, they often become grounded and appear worn out.

The condition often develops when a person is under high-stress situations or when a person has TMD or Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction. The jaw muscles often tense up and are very painful. Worn down teeth are clear signs of Bruxism or TMD. If you have these conditions, consult your doctor and learn to calm yourself when you encounter a stressful situation.

Crusting often occurs in people who wear dentures. However, most of us would dismiss the fact that dentures and aspiration pneumonia have a connection. In fact, the link often is deadly, especially if the person affected is geriatric and needs particular attention.

Due to a lack of self-care, most seniors often have dentures or dental implants which have a lot of debris and other foreign matter forming around. When this situation happens, the waste on the dentures become a health risk due to Aspiration Pneumonia.

Aspiration Pneumonia occurs when anything foreign gets into the airway and lungs which cause inflammation. Take care of dentures and use particular kinds of brushes that clean it properly.

Yellow Teeth

Some people may have perfectly healthy, yellow-colored teeth but in some people, yellow teeth may be a sign of a disease. Discolorations also have to do something about diet and medication intake. Yellow teeth often occur when people are drinking too many soft drinks and caffeine.

Other medications, such as liquid iron supplements often stain teeth, which is why nurses and other health professionals recommend using a straw or drinking tube to keep the iron from staining the teeth.

Cracks and Thinning

Teeth that have a lot of cracks and seem to be thinning is enough cause for a person to go to a doctor directly. When this happens, that person may be suffering GERD or Gastroesophageal Reflux. This condition affects the teeth because of the acid in the stomach that often gets into the mouth and the teeth.

The Acid in our stomach is so strong that it can dissolve food in a matter of minutes. The enamel in our teeth can’t handle the acidity and often becomes thin, sometimes becoming translucent-like. GERD happens when there is a disturbance in the barriers of the Stomach and Esophagus. Frequent vomiting due to alcohol intoxication can also lead to GERD.

Although technically you can’t see bad breath, halitosis is highly noticeable and very unsettling. When a person has halitosis, it’s a clear sign that something is wrong with their health. Halitosis may stem from a lot of problems such as a decaying tooth, excessive plaque, gastric gases building up, etc.

Keep everything in your mouth healthy. Often, people neglect to take care of their gums and tongue and solely focus on their teeth. Keeping good oral hygiene and a healthy diet guarantees you from not having bad breath.

The human tooth is a fantastic tool that our body uses to break down food. Not only has it been used that way, but the teeth are also indicators of how healthy our body is. Many conditions such as halitosis, bruxism, and even a risk for aspiration pneumonia can be found rooted in our teeth.

Take care of your body will make your teeth stay healthy, strong, and pearly white. Show off those healthy choppers while you smile the day away.
